    Speak Your Vues

    LITERARY EXPRESSION

    Dear Editor:

I have long found the common poetic saying, “Roses are red, violets are blue”, to be highly deceptive. Here is a poem I wrote myself, in which I elaborate on my emotions on the subject. In some ways, this poem says a lot about me, however, I did exaggerate my emotions, and this poem is intended to be amusing.

Roses are red, violets are blue

Except that’s a lie-only one line is true

Blue is the color of eggs and the sky

You said violets were blue. Why did you lie?

It’s true that the name of that beautiful hue

Does come from the name of the violet, it’s true

Deception of this kind cannot be expected

To thrive, yet my ideals of truth are rejected.

Three lies: the name, the statement, the hue!

¡Por favor! Make sure your flower colors are true.

    Sincerely,

    Reb Yidel Schwartz

Editor’s Note: Roses are red, violets are blue. Some poems rhyme, this one doesn’t.

    GOOD BYE NIKKI HALEY

    Dear Editor:

With the outgoing UN representative of the USA we all need to show hakaras hatov that she so greatly represented klal Yisroel.

    Thank you Nikki Haley

    Shuey Basch

Editor’s Note: I fully agree with you. We should all show our hakaras hatov to both Trump and Haley.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM REVISITED

    Dear Editor:

We need to mobilize everyone and set up rallies and to say tehillim to get this horrible decree of attacking our education. We just finished Chanukah where the Greeks tried the same. We need rachmei shomayim. Gevald!!

    Sruli Weiss

Editor’s Note: Yes, our gedolim need to step up and head this fight of the terrible decree. We should be there ready to support whoever is representing our community to the education department.

    SOUR CREAM VS. APPLESAUCE

    Dear Editor:

I have an argument with my wife. She says that latkes should be eaten with applesauce. I say it should be eaten with sour cream. What should be done? Who is right?

    Yankel Weisenthal

Editor’s Note: There is a famous saying, “Al ta’am vareyach ein mah l’hisvakeyach.” What one person likes another may detest. It’s not supposed to be my way or the highway. Everyone has his or her own preferences.

    BE MECHAZEK THE TALMIDIM

    Dear Editor:

Now that Chanukah is behind us I feel that the Yeshivos should start a new limud to give all the bochurim a renewed cheshek. Especially since this year is an ibbur yohr.

    A Rebbe in yeshiva ketana

Editor’s Note: Why says the talmidim need to be mischazek? I think they are all ready and rearing to go back to yeshiva. At least, that’s what I am seeing in my home.

    TRUMP AND CRITICISM

    Dear Editor:

Trump came out with a blistering attack against Tilerson. I think he can’t handle criticism. I wonder if he would write a letter to the Editor what it would sound like.

    Shloime Goodman

Editor’s Note: I would suggest you read Trump’s twitter account if you wonder what his letters would look like.

    SPANISH JEW REVEALED

    Dear Editor:

Bad news.  Incoming progressive Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced at a Hanukkah candle-lighting ceremony that she is descended from Sephardic Jews who fled to Puerto Rico during the Spanish Inquisition. That is all we need another progressive hating Jew convincing us that she is Jewish and wants the best for us.

    Sori Wallenberg

Editor’s Note: I think it’s a fad. She’s looking for attention, just like Madonna and others who make claims to be Jewish.
