REMEMBERING RABBI WEINBERG ZT”L
Dear Vues Master
This past Monday morning Klal Yisrael lost an-other gem, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Meir Weinberg zt”l, a Magid Shiur at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas for over 50 years. My son learned with him for many years & loved him very much! Yehi zichro Baruch!
RYR
Vues Master’s Note: Yes! He will be sorely missed!
SHABBOS GAMES
Dear Vues Master
Last week on your fun question page Ari Hirsch asked the question “What is your favorite game to play with your family on Shabbos?” I want you to know that I was very surprised about some of the answers. Some of the answers mentioned are not allowed to be played on Shabbos. I’m actually very surprised that certain people gave those answers.
RB
Vues Master’s Note: To each, his own. Speak to your Rabbi.
SHATZER MATZAH
Dear Vues Master
What is the real story about Shatzer Matzah on Cortelyou road? Everywhere you go people are complaining how much matzah is this year & they are saying that between inflation & the fact that one of the busiest matzah factories are not open this year that you can’t get a pound of matzah at a de-cent price. Rumor has it that they will be opening again next year, but who knows? Do you?
YL
Vues Master’s Note: That’s what happens when there are machlokes!
ISRAEL IN THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC
Dear Vues Master
It is awesome to see team Israel play in the World Baseball Classic games. Even if they lose I am so proud of them. It’s great to see a team with Jewish pride on the world stage.
OB
Vues Master’s Note: Good luck but I get more nachas seeing them in thetech world using their heads!
SHABBOS LUNCH COMPANY
Dear Vues Master
If my shul on Shabbos morning ends at 11am & we invite company over for lunch, is it wrong to tell the company that we are start-ing lunch at noon? This past Shabbos we had to wait for our company to arrive until 1pm. I really wanted to take a shlof & by the time the meal was over it was already after 4pm. I promised my son I would learn with him on Shabbos afternoon so I got no shlof. When I get no sleep Shabbos afternoon I’m wiped the entire week. I told my wife I don’t want to invite anyone for lunch anymore & she’s not happy with me. What should I do?
GT
Vues Master’s Note: There has to be some sort of compromise. There are therapists out there that deal with this!
RABBI GOLDWASSER
Dear Vues Master
Two weeks ago there was an interview in the Jewish Vues about Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser. My family are big fans of Rabbi Goldwasser. We read all of his books & have attended many of his classes. We enjoyed the article very much! Keep up the good work.
ML
Vues Master’s Note: Thanks for the positive feed-back. It is always appreciated like this we know the hard work is not done for nothing.
WHAT KEEPS YOU UP?
Dear Vues Master
We’ve all heard the common business question “What keeps you up at night? It helps uncover the pain a leader may be facing and assists in developing solu-tions to remove that pain and inspire growth. The older I get the more I realize that growth isn’t just about removing pain. It’s about finding joy. It’s about discovering what excites you to action to conquer that pain. So, the question shouldn’t be, “What keeps you up at night?” It should be, “What gets you out of bed?” “What keeps you up at night?” is fear based & reveals anxiety, struggle, & doubt. “What gets you out of bed?” is #courage based & reveals passion, joy, & love. One question debilitates. The other invigorates. One exhausts. The other ignites. So, what motivates you to action – fear or courage? Fear and pain will motivate you for the short term and can even help you take quick action. But passion, love and joy will incite courage and sustain you for the long term. They’ll bring mean-ing to your mission and give you a reason to fly through the pain. So – what gets you out of bed? · What are you willing to fight for? · Who needs you to win? · What are you passionate about? · What gets you excited? Who are you helping? Ultimately, it’s about finding out what’s on the other side of the pain. It’s about find-ing out what truly is important, and only you can answer that. But once you do, you’ll jump out of bed!
RW
Vues Master’s Note: What gets me out of bed is answering your letters! I come across as cynical but do ap-preciate your correspondence. It keeps me going. Now that I am al-most finished, it might be time for bed again!
INSPECTOR RICHIE TAYLOR
Dear Vues Master
My family has a new game going on every week. The game is called “How many times is Inspector Richie Taylors picture in the Jew-ish Vues each week? We couldn’t believe that a few weeks ago we counted 78 times in one edition. Someone must really like the In-spector!!
YW
Vues Master’s Note: We just like to thank him for all the hard work he does for the community.
HOUSE PRICES ARE THRU THE ROOF
Dear Vues Master
I can’t believe how expensive homes are right now in Jewish communities throughout the tri state area. It used to be that you can go to Lakewood or Jackson & get a mansion for very little money. Now even those areas are expensive.
PM
Vues Master’s Note: They used to say real estate is in der erd but now it is up there! But it is cyclical what goes up comes down etc.
QUIET PURIM
Dear Vues Master
Is it just me or was Flatbush very quiet this year on Purim? It used to take my family 10 minutes to get down a block on Purim day. This year I saw very few people & the roads were empty!
AH
Vues Master’s Note: Don’t com-plain. Maybe it is for the good. Hope hatzalah has less calls!
JV BOX ON AVE. M
Dear Vues Master
I have to tell you a funny story. Last week I was walking with my son on Ave. M & we got to the corner of Glatt Mart. On the corner there is a big box with the Jewish Vues in it. I told my son to wait right near the box while I ran into Glatt Mart to get something. When I got out of the store my son said that he was counting how many people picked up the paper & he said that in less than 10 minutes 17 seperate people came to pick up the paper. He couldn’t believe it. I just wanted to tell you that your paper has come a long way & is clearly the best publication in town! Keep up the good work!
BR
Vues Master’s Note: We love com-pliments! Keep on reading and sup-porting our advertisers.
VOCABULARY LESSON
Dear Vues Master
A little boy was studying his vo-cabulary and came across two words whose meanings were not completely clear to him. He asked his father to explain the difference between anger and exasperation. The father explained that it was a matter of semantics but said “Let me show you an example so you won’t forget it.” The father took his phone and dialed a number at random. “Hello, is Hymie there?” he said when a man answered. “There is no Hymie here!” the man said. “Look up the number before you call!” The father turned to his son. “See,” he said, “that man wasn’t really angry with our call. He was exasperated. Now we’ll call him again and see what hap-pens.“ He dialed the same number and calmly said “Hello, is Hy-mie there?” “You just called this number and I told you there’s no Hymie here. Look up the number or call Information. Stop annoy-ing me!” The father hung up and said to his son: “Now I’ll show the difference between the man be-ing exasperated and his being an-gry.” For the third time, he dialed the man’s number and when the voice at the other end of the line bellowed “HELLO!” The father calmly said: “Hello, this is Hymie. Any calls for me?”
BR
Vues Master’s Note: I think you should teach your kids better things!
DRUNK
Dear Vues Master:
A soldier returned to his base af-ter a night out. An officer noticed that he was walking with one foot on the sidewalk and one foot in the gutter. “Hey, Private, are you drunk?” he asked. “Thank G-d!” he replied. “I thought that one of my legs is long and one short.”
MN
Vues Master’s Note: C’mon you must be pulling my leg!
NEW BOOK
Dear Vues Master
Purim was beautiful. The achdus/togetherness was heartwarming. How can we make it continue? The newly published book entitled “The Power of Hello” will help us achieve this. Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser, shl-ita writes concerning this book: “I recommend this book to all near and far. I believe it is a publication that should be on the bookshelf of every household, and should be required reading in every yeshiva and Bais Yaakov. It is a very much-needed gift to our generation.” Reading this book will help one to continue to bring achdus in Klal Yisroel. It is essential reading. I wish Bracha B’Hatzlacha V’Kol Tov Tomid! B’kavod rav,

Vues Master’s Note: Send us a copy so we can review it.
LOT
Dear Vues Master
Why did לוטchoose to settle in the wicked and sinful סדום? One wise man said: “Its because he saw, as was סדום, says: פסוק י, בראשית יג.”כולה משקה
JGV
Vues Master’s Note: What kind of drinks did they have?
EXPANSION
Dear Vues Master
It’s well known that תיבת נחwas extremely crowded. Why then didn’t he expand it? The answer is that when your neighbors on the first floor are garbage and those on the second floor are בהמות, you’re in no mood to expand and make renovations.
NH
Vues Master’s Note: Eh! With to-day’s rates I think we are better off without expansion.
BANKS FAILING
Dear Vues Master
What happened with these banks? SVB and Signature bank? Still Trump’s fault?
GU
Vues Master’s Note: Of course one of the board members was Frank from Dodd Frank that made all these banking changes!
PARENTS
Dear Vues Master:
Rav Azriel Auerbach says: There is a mitzvah to listen to what your parents ask you. Some say it falls under the mitzvah of kibbud av v’eim, while others say it falls un-der moreh av v’eim (fearing your father and mother). I would like to resolve this maklokes (disagree-ment) by saying there are two types of listening, one is to hear and the other is to listen, to un-derstand. To give ear and to hear your parents is honoring them. To listen and do is to fear them. Rav Shlomo Brevda would talk about the lost art of listening; he would model how to listen. When being spoken to, he would look at you. If you find it hard to do this all the time, at least do so with your par-ents. If you want to elevate your-self then do what they ask you. The Chazon Ish did not attribute his great accomplishments to his genius, or to the extraordinary ef-forts he put into studying; not to his prayers, nor to his abstinence from luxuries. He attributed it to the honor and fear of his parents.
DG
Vues Master’s Note: Wow you are consistent! Despite the fact you are getting nowhere!
PURIM
Dear Vues Master
Purim is once a year you try to enjoy every minute of it and not think anything disturbing and an-noying is spoiling your day but it did mine. My sister and I were going to listen to the megillah at one of the shuls in Flatbush, the minute we got there we got attacked by a bunch of Sedaka collectors ladies, girls, men, and kids. We know that Purim is about a lot of mitzvot including donating Sedaka but the way that these Sedaka collectors were act-ing not only was not proper it was annoying and ugly. When some-one asks for Sedaka you give what you think you want to give and these people were asking us to give what they wanted and they were holding our bags and hanging on us the way it is not even easy to explain. I really do not know if they were real Jew-ish people who know how to ask for Sedaka and thank them after collecting it. If they were Jewish needy people then their behav-ior was really disappointing and if they were not from the Jewish community, then what were they doing there next to the shul on Purim? I do not know how oth-er megillah listeners who came there could dill with this but the picture bothered us the whole day. Hope we could find another way to help needy people with-out being annoyed and not mak-ing them feel left alone.
D.M
Vues Master’s Note: I feel you! But be happy that you can give and not be on the take!
LETTER TO MY LEFT KIDNEY
Dear Vues Master
A friend of mine just sent me this letter & I thought that your readers would appreciate it. Shani, a Flat-bush resident, was just taken into surgery. She is donating a kidney to-day. She prepared the following and asked to send it out on her behalf:Dear Left Kidney,Today we say goodbye. I want to thank you for everything you have done for me. I’m embarrassed to say that for much of my 46 years, I didn’t pay much attention to you and most certainly took you for granted. Even when my own mother suffered with kidney disease and I knew your sig-nificance, I didn’t always appreci-ate your importance. And still, you showed up each and every moment and did your job. For 23 years I ac-tually thought I would give you to my mother. She had one transplant and would surely need another. And I naively assumed I would be her savior. But life doesn’t always work like that and when the time came that she needed you, we were no longer a match. With the help of Renewal, an angel came along and gave of himself so my mother could live and then I knew what to do with you. I would give you to someone else who was in desperate need of one. I am sending you out today to help this man, a stranger and yet a brother to me. I beg you to work hard and help him live life to its full-est. Take good care of him, as you have done with me. The doctors say I won’t necessarily miss you but I will never forget you…. רופא חוליםברוך. Please daven for me בת איידלשיינדל אביבהthat the surgery and recuperation should be smooth and that I should be a good שליחfor my recipient שלמה, he should have a צבי בן חנהרפואהand be gezunt for many, many, many years to come.
SA
Vues Master Note: Thanks for shar-ing! Renewal is a great organization & I admire all kidney donors!
UPDATING THE MEGILLAH
Dear Vues Master
Before we put Purim completely in the rear mirror, I would like to point out contemporary interpreta-tive updates to the Megillah in light of the liberal society norms. First, Achashveirosh became “woke” as it says “ba’laiuh hahu nudenu sh’nos ha’melech. He decided to give eq-uity to Mordechai. Second, what happened to Vashti? We all think that she was killed but it doesn’t say that anywhere. Actually, she was “cancelled”. She was removed from Twitter and other social media and no one heard from her again. We learn someone who is “can-celled” is like a mais. Third, we can longer say that Haman was hung. The Aguda said that we should not hang Haman in effigy because it will hurt minorities who suffered lynchings in the past. From now on, we will say that Haman was “neutralized” which is appropriate since was tzorer ha’yehudim – he terrorized the Yiden. Now, for the changing of the clock. The chacho-mim in the Megillah were Yodei Itim. They knew how to tell time, I guess, with sun-dials. However, we are more advanced. As we daven Maariv, we say v’tevuna meshaneh itim v’machalif ha’zmanim. We change the clock with understand-ing and change all the times in the shule when we daven. Va’anuchna Loi Neida ma naaseh… Dov Fish
Vues Master Note: Cute. Thanks for sharing
