Getting to Know C.J. Mosley JR.

    Name: Clint Mosley Jr.

Born: June 19, 1992 (age 27) in Mobile, Alabama

    College: Alabama

    NFL Draft: 2014 / Round: 1 /  Pick: 17

    Position: Linebacker

Salary: Before the season the New York Jets signed C.J. Mosley to a massive five-year, $85 million contract with $51 million guaranteed

What is your on-field mentality? I would go with a quiet assassin, and if I do get to talking, it’s definitely gonna be a fun game. I definitely love the contact, I love making big plays, but I’m all about making sure my defense is on the right page doing the right things.

What style of linebacker would you say you are? I would say I’m a four-down linebacker. I can play the pass coverage, gotta play the run, give the calls in, run sideline-to-sideline, so that’s what I always pride myself on.

Why can this be a No. 1 defense? It definitely starts with our great defensive coordinator Coach Gregg Williams. He has a lot of guys on his staff that he’s been with, that’s been to the Super Bowl. We got a bunch of young guys and guys that’s been on this team and new guys that came in that’s hungry to win, that hasn’t won in a while. So when you get that combination, and you get guys that’s ready to compete on defense and as a team, you have that formula, you just gotta make sure you put it together.

You grew up idolizing Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher. If you had to pick one, who was your favorite? Definitely Ray Lewis. I was a Bears fan first because my parents are from Chicago, so I used to go there all the time. I used to spend my whole summer there, so I liked the Bears. The older I got and the more I played, I became a Ray Lewis fan. I was a Miami and LSU fan, too. I was a big defense fan.

What do you like to do when your not playing football? When I’m not going over my playbook and not watching cartoons, I love to play to video games.

Is this Jets team, a playoff team? We definitely feel like we have the ability to, but it’s easier said than done.

What is your message for Jets fans? New year, new attitude, new mindset. It’s time to have a winning mindset, We want the fans to come out, bring that same energy, that same intensity that we’re gonna bring on the field, ‘cause our mentality as far as the offense, put up a lot of points, put on a show on the defense and try to shut as many teams as we can out.
