Robert Kraft is the owner of the New England Patriots and is largely responsible for the success that the team has seen for the better part of the last decade-and-a-half.

Robert Krafts father – Harry Kraft, a dress manufacturer in Boston’s Chinatown – was a Jewish lay leader and wanted his son to become a rabbi. The Krafts were an observant Orthodox Jewish family. Kraft grew up in Congregation Kehillath Israel in Brookline, where his father, taught Hebrew school, and now attends Temple Emanuel in Newton, Massachusetts.

In the New England area, it is widely acknowledged that Kraft is the man who single-handily saved the Patriots organization, and although it took 10 years from when he initially purchased the team, Kraft eventually delivered a Super Bowl Championship and turned the franchise around.

One of Robert Kraft’s most distinctive projects is supporting American Football Israel, including Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem and the Kraft Family Israel Football League. In 2017 Kraft announced a contribution of $6 million to build the first ever regulation size American football field in Israel. In June 2017, Robert Kraft, along with several NFL Hall of Famers, traveled to Israel for the grand opening of the new Kraft Family Sports Campus.

In 2015 Robert Kraft and The New England Patriots held a moment of silence before a Monday home game against the Buffalo Bills in honor of slain 18-year-old Massachusetts native Ezra Schwartz, who was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist in Israel. Schwartz was one of three people killed when a Palestinian gunned down vehicles in Gush Etzion. He was studying in an Israeli yeshiva for the year and was delivering food to lone IDF soldiers in the area when he was killed.

At the 2016 YU Commencement, Robert Kraft Urged Yeshiva University Grads To Have ‘Wildly Improbable Dreams’. Kraft told the students about his “big dream, ‘chalom gadol’” to own the Patriots, for which he said he paid $172 million, or nearly $50 million over market value and what he was initially prepared to pay. “Something in me said ‘yes’ to that message number,” he said. “I trusted my gut and we did the deal.” In the 21 years since, he managed to turn the Patriots from a league joke into four-time Super Bowl champions.“What is your chalom gadol?” Kraft asked the students. “What is your big dream? Think big. Make it a wildly improbable dream.”“Making improbable dreams happen is the story of our people,” he said.

Earlier in the 2018/19 season when the Patriots played the Steelers in Pittsburgh, New England’s owner Robert Kraft and wide receiver Julian Edelman continued to show their support for the Jewish community following the mass shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue that killed 11 and injured six others during Shabbat morning services on Oct. 27. According to NFL Network, Kraft arrived in Pittsburgh a day early to visit the Tree of Life synagogue before attending services at another local synagogue, Rodef Shalom. He addressed the congregation at the rabbi’s request, telling the group that his experience with them was “bigger” to him than Sunday’s highly anticipated AFC matchup.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has been awarded Israel’s 2019 Genesis Prize, a $1 million recognition widely known as the “Jewish Nobel” prize. Organizers of the prize announced that they were recognizing Kraft’s philanthropy and commitment to Israel. Kraft, who grew up in an observant Jewish home, has been an outspoken supporter of Israel and has arranged trips for NFL Hall of Famers to the Holy Land. Organizers say Kraft’s prize oney will be donated to initiatives combating anti-Semitism and attempts to delegitimize Israel. Kraft says he’s honored to be able to contribute “to such worthy causes.”Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will present Kraft the award in Jerusalem in June.
