27 Feb KASHRUS QUESTIONS & ANSWERS WITH RABBI MOSHE ELEFANT
What if you
find a dairy
utensil (ex.
a spoon)
in the meat drawer or
vice versa?
Depending on how you
wash dishes and run your
kitchen, there can be a
variety of scenarios where it
is not a problem. Therefore,
unless one knows it was
washed together with meat,
with hot water, in a way that
would create a problem,
one has a right to assume
that nothing happened and
you can place it back in the
proper drawer. If you are
not sure, you should check
with your local Rabbi.
Making parve in a meat
oven: Can you have
something that’s parve, but
made in a meat oven with
something dairy i.e. dessert
and coffee. If you want to
serve the food with dairy,
it should be kashered first.
But, in this case many are
lenient not to wait 24 hours.
What is the status of a
dairy toaster that might
(safek) have accidentally
had meat in it?
Depends on what is meant
by might. If it is unlikely but
possible, one should clean it
and wait 24 hours. There is
no need to do anything else.
If it probably did, then it will
need kashering. Depending
on how it was used would
determine how to kasher it
– ask a Rabbi.
