20 Jun KASHRUS QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK WITH RABBI MOSHE ELEFANT
Can one use a BBQ grill for
both milchig and fleishig
by changing the grate?
Changing the grate would
be inadequate. The bottom of the grill also
becomes fleishig and so changing the grate
wouldn’t do much.
Chutz La’aretz is one week behind
Eretz Yisrael in leining. Is someone
that is visiting America from Eretz
Yisrael allowed to get an aliyah
since he was yotzei the parsha that
we are reading right now in America
last week?
He is allowed to get an aliyah. Should he
lechatchila get an aliyah? I would suggest not.
If he is called to the Torah, then absolutely,
but if he’s asked whether he wants an aliya
then he should say maybe not. If it’s on
Shabbos, the obligation of krias ha torah on
Shabbos is to give seven people an aliya. So if
the shul is giving out extra aliyas and he gets
one of the extra ones, then it’s not a problem.
In general, if he wants an aliyah because he
wants to bench gomel or for a yahrzeit, I dont
see any problem with him getting an aliyah.
