Kashruth Question of the Week: Kashering Your Microwave and Dishwasher for Pesach

This is only for people who kasher plastic because the inside of your microwave is plastic. If you don’t kasher plastic, you can’t kasher your microwave. If you feel that plastic can be kashered, you have to clean your microwave and not use it for 24 hours. The glass turntable in the microwave should be removed and replaced with a new one. A Styrofoam cup should be filled with water and boiled in the microwave for 10 minutes. The cup should be refilled and moved to a different spot and the process should be repeated for 10 minutes. A piece of cardboard or contact paper should be taped over the glass window pane for the duration of Pesach.

    KASHERING YOUR DISHWASHER FOR PESACH

You should not kasher your dishwasher. There really is no practical way to kasher a dishwasher.
