    BAG TAX

    Dear Editor:

I would like to thank Simcha Felder for preventing the bag tax from going into effect. What scares me is the governor’s justification of why he signed it. I fear that the governor will push a statewide law for a real bag tax, supposedly to fund environmental initiatives, but whose proceeds will go into the state treasury.

Editor’s Note: You are justified in your concern. The governor is almost as liberal as our mayor. Let’s hope that the State Senators will keep the liberals in check.

    BAG TAX

    Dear Editor:

I just saw the following article on Matzav.com and wanted to share it with your readership.

De Blasio Open To Banning Plastic Bags Entirely After Albany Blocks Five Cent Fee

    Oh Billy.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said he’s “very open” to banning plastic bags outright after the state legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo blocked a city law to impose a five-cent fee on the bags, the NY Daily News reports.

“That was one way of doing it. A ban is another option, which I’d be very open to,” de Blasio said Monday night on NY1, according to the News. “The one thing I know is the worst possible outcome is what we have right now. Vast numbers of plastic bags are just harming the earth. It’s not good for any of us.”

I feel that the Governor and the State Senators need to stop this person. He cares more for the Environment than the people.

Editor’s Note: When is De Blasio up for reelection? He seems to have done so much damage in so little time! I hope NY City residents remember all this when it is election time.

    LACK OF TZNIYUS

    Dear Editor:

I find this phenomenon hard to swallow. Wherever I walk in the street I see nice Jewish boys and girls from all walks of life chewing gum and blowing bubbles. I think it is a terrible display of lacking tzniyus. When I was a child my teachers would say that only a cow chews its cud; not a human. Please stop eating gum in public.

    Shaindy B.

Editor’s Note: Halacha teaches us that one should not eat in the street. I agree with you that chewing gum is not appropriate for the street. Even in the privacy of one’s home there are two ways of chewing gum. There are those who annoyingly chew in your face and blow bubbles and others who chew in a circumspect way. When chewing gum, think about your neighbor.

    DRESS APPROPRIATELY

    Dear Editor:

I find that a lot of people daven mincha and maariv without a hat and jacket. In Shulchan Aruch it says that one must be dressed like he is before a king when he davens. I feel that as a community we need to improve in this area.

Editor’s Note: You should ask your Rav regarding what the appropriate dress is for Tefillah.

    PRESS CONFERENCE BUMBLE

    Dear Editor:

What is this world coming to? This Chassidic guy with a funny Yarmulka dressed in a vest was bumbling a question to President Trump. I hope this guy retires and stops making a fool of all of us Jews.

    Boruch D.

Editor’s Note: I hope you are not implying that this person was representing Judaism. You have to understand that this person thinks it’s Color War an entire year as he runs after politicians and poses with them. He was obviously looking for attention, and got it.

    TERRORIST TRAVESTY

    Dear Editor:

The Sgt. Elor Azariya who shot a terrorist while being held down was sentenced to 18 months in prison. What a travesty. Why would a soldier risk shooting an Arab if he stands to be imprisoned? Let us not forget the person he shot was a person that tried to kill Jewish innocent people. He was not an innocent bystander that was shot by the soldier. Netanyahu needs to pardon him immediately.

    Alan J.

Editor’s Note: If only our soldiers would be treated as well as the terrorists in jail, we’d be okay. I wonder if he will be part of the next exchange for terrorists. At least the U.S. has a voice of reason in the UN by sending Nikki Haley to represent us.
