COMMON SENSE: A THING OF THE PAST

Last week was President Biden’s first week on the job. Republicans should work with him on policies that will benefit Americans and fight against policies that will damage Americans. Last week, Biden commenced his administration with a series of executive orders that are against common sense. First, Biden re-entered the US into the Paris Climate Accord. The PCA would cost America 6.5 million jobs and 3 trillion dollars, according to some studies. The PCA also would not even lower the temperature majorly. According to Dr. Bjorn Lomburg, even if the world fulfilled its obligations by 2030, the temperature would only go down .3 Fahrenheit. There are alternative ways to sustain our environment with new technology and nuclear energy, but the Biden Administration is enacting policies that satisfy radical environmentalists instead of middle-class Americans. Biden also thought that it is essential that trans women play in women’s sports competitions when studies like SpringerLink have concluded that trans women have advantages over biological women in sports since they are biologically male. Biden also ended the Keystone Pipeline costing 1000 jobs with more to be lost in the future. From putting America back into an agreement that favors China to ending thousands of jobs, Biden is doing the exact opposite of America First. The MAGA Republican Party should not only oppose policies but also propose their own ideas. We need proposals like Matt Gaetz’s Green Real Deal promoting business innovation and technology to combat climate change. If the Republican Party can be a Party that opposes bad proposals while also promoting good ones, then our future is bright!!

TEFILLA FOR VACCINE
Dear Vues Master:
The question has been presented to many rabbis. Is there a Tefillah that one should recite when receiving the Covid-19 vaccine? The answer is yes. Indeed it is the same prayer that one should recite before any medical procedure (or taking medicine). The Talmud (Berachot 60 A) lists a number of prayers that one should say in various situations. One of those prayers is to be recited prior to what was a standard medical procedure in those days known as ‘Hakazat Dam” (letting of blood). The text of the prayer is as follows: יהי רצון מלפניך יי‘ א-להי שיהא עסק זה it May לי לרפואה כי רופא חינם אתה be desirous before You, Ad-onoy my G-d, that this activity should be healing for me, for You are a Free Healer. Upon completion of the procedure one should recite: חולים רופא ברוך Blessed is the Healer of the sick. Rambam cites this as practical Halacha (Berachot 10:21), as does Shulchan Aruch (OC 230:4). It is obvious that the Talmud’s example of Hakazat Dam is but a common instance and that the prayer should be recited before any medical procedure or taking medicine (Mishna Brura 230:6). A very strong case can be made that upon receiving notification of the vaccine becoming available to you or notification of your appointment to receive the vaccine that you should recite the Hatov V’Hameitiv blessing, which is the blessing recited upon receiving good news that affects you and others (OC 222:1). During one of my visits to Israel I had the opportunity to accompany my daughter to a well-baby visit to the clinic for one of my grandchildren at which time a vaccination was to be administered. When the time for the vaccination came the nurse began to run down a checklist of instructions and procedures given to the parent. She went down the list – hold the child this way, move your seat this way, roll up the sleeve, and without missing a beat the nurse pointed to a placard on the wall and instructed my daughter to recite the above prayer. For Jews, that is one of the standard instructions and steps for a routine or not-so-routine medical procedure (and it is reason #38 that Israel is a Jewish country and our home, where we all belong). Of course there are many other opportunities to pray to HaShem for health and healing, starting with the blessing for healing in the Shmoneh Esray 3 times a day, together with opportunities to thank and praise HaShem for His abundant kindness and blessings (Mizmor L’Todah, Modim, Modeh Ani etc..) May it be HaShem’s will that the vaccines and other therapeutics bring an end to this horrible pandemic and that He send healing and strength to all those afflicted with Covid-19 and any other illness.

A HEILEGE HAIRCUT
Dear Vues Master:
Master People should be supporting their local heimishe barbershops. On Nostrand Avenue between Ave. J and K there is a heimishe barbershop called Ben’s Haircuts that has been in business for over twelve years. Just one month ago two doors down from Ben’s another barbershop announced its opening. This line of business has always been a difficult one to earn a decent living from, especially now during covid. I have been going to Rephael at Ben’s for at least five years now & he is a really nice guy, who gives a great haircut. I’m worried for him & I want him to succeed. The Rambam famously writes that the highest form of tzedakah is by helping another Jew have a living, so he won’t need to beg for tzedakah. Certainly, by supporting a local Jewish barber, you are fulfilling that dictum. By doing so, your visit to the barber is no longer just a regular haircut. It’s a Heilige haircut!

HAKARAS HATOV TO TRUMP

Don’t be like Pharaoh and forget Trump. Everyone agrees with Rabbi Goldberg that what happened at the Capital was inexcusable; however, it’s more inexcusable to promulgate a lie. There has yet to be one person to say it was justified so who are you chastising? Your whole speech doesn’t have legs to stand on because the left and the never Trumpers are crying wolf and making a strawman in order to cast aspersion on a great president. Rudy Giuliani has evidence that antifa broke into the Capitol. This should go down in history as the great distraction as 14 hours of anticipated debate on election fraud was suppressed. Don’t add to what the left are saying unless you subscribe to Joseph Goebbels, who said, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” Remember that Pharaoh’s downfall was a result of forgetting about Yosef so don’t not forget about Trump who did a great job and with his hands tied behind his back.

SETTING A LOW STANDARD

Is the new administration heavy on PR? There is an announced goal of administering 100 mln people in 100 days (first dose, I believe). Note on 1/15, US already administered 1.1 mln doses and trajectory is increasing with average 0.2 mln more doses every day for the last 10 days. Is this a purposely low goal to then beat expectations, combined with denigrating previous efforts? I am genuinely puzzled and looking for good answers.

Dear Vues Master: Who started the attack on the US Capitol?!? Was it the Wild American Trump supporters or was it the Radical Left to make us Conservatives look bad?!? Let me ask you Libs here and everywhere – What would you do if you lived in a Commy Country and you didn’t want to Expose All Corruption?!? Would you say, with your Propaganda Media, that Trump couldn’t win against Hillary, month after month? Would you then investigate Trump for 3 years because of “Russian Collusion”? Btw, there wasn’t any. The Next election comes around and the population still supports this guy Trump. Would you then Rig the election?!? Would you then make a diversion on the Day that Members of Congress are going to Expose the Fraud that occurred during the Presidential Election?!? Because our Judicial System Failed?!? Namely Attacking the Legislative Body – of where this was Going On.

If our community’s current behaviour continues through Purim, it is an absolute certainty that thousands will die as a result. Now is the time for us, the regular people who normally try and keep our heads down, to stand up and demand that our Rabbonim and community leaders come out unequivocally to say that Purim MUST be different this year. No big parties, no seudos with multiple families, no shpielers going from door to door, no shouting and singing in Shul. We cannot claim ignorance like we did last Purim when no one knew Covid was amongst us. So far, there has been absolute silence from our leaders.

Vues Master’s Note: Everyone should consult his or her Rov! You can’t make a blanket statement that our leaders are quiet. I have heard from many and they vary. If you are a Rov I would accept what you are saying but since you are not then I think you should discuss with your Rov and maybe write a Kol Koreh and see who signs it. But expect an opposite Kol Koreh to come out! There are Rabbonim ready to sign for either side.
