WATER CHARGES
Dear Editor:
I find that the price of water is rising constantly. Shouldn’t water be free? Soon thye will charge us for air.
Yankel Gold
Editor’s Note: By the way, they do charge you for air. When you fill up your tires. Life costs money. I hope you learn to live with it. The alternative isn’t too good.
DISTURBANCE DURING DAVENING
Dear Editor:
More and more shuls have mispalelim actually continually cracking their knuckles (sometimes quite loudly) during Tefillah. How annoying and disturbing this gets!!
If one isn’t supposed to even daven out loud so as not to disturb, what’s with this MISHUGAS??
Joe Halpern
Editor’s Note: I don’t know what you’re talking about. I personally never experience that. I suppose anything that disturbs others from davening should not be done.
100 BRACHOS
Dear Editor:
The Shul I davened in on Yom Kippur did not have any besamim. How could I have all 100 brachos with out besamim?
Shaina Brander
Editor’s Note: I guess you can use the bathroom, listen to the haftorah, and answer amens.
CANDY FROM CHINA
Dear Editor:
Most of us know that Chinese products in general and food in particular made in china is at best inferior quality.
There is hardly any oversight in the manufacturing products so why would anyone just consume food and candy made in China without any concern?
The fact that it has or may have a good hashgacha has nothing to do with the quality of the food or candy product.
I would love to hear what others have to say.
Yossel Davidov
Editor’s Note: Candy isn’t good for you to consume no matter where it is produced.
SELF DRIVING CARS
Dear Editor:
Self-Driving Cars are cars that are driven by computers. Assuming you set your destination before Shabbat (or can otherwise direct it without performing any Melacha), can one ride in such a car on Shabbos?
Kaila Fischer
Editor’s Note: What you need to concern yourself with is the extra weight added to the car when you get into it. Extra power is then needed to get the car going. So as much as you may think it is working without you doing anything, you are causing more melacha to be done when you enter it.
UPDATES ON CELL PHONES
I heard Verizon is stopping to support 3G. I feel that Verizon should pay for all our new phones we need to pay to upgrade to 4G. Did anyone hear of a class action lawsuit.
Please let us know. Here is another case of a big company taking advatage of the little guy.
Boruch S
Editor’s Note: I agree with you completely! Hopefully one of our readers who is a lawyer will take up this case.
BABIES BORN ON YOM KIPPUR
I came across this statistic.
Over 200 babies were born in Israeli hospitals during Yom Kippur. MDA teams transferred 174 women to hospitals in Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak, Kiryat Gat, Givat Ze’ev, Ramat Gan and elsewhere.
There is usually a large number of births on Yom Kippur, as women who are fasting go into labor.
At Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim, 60 women gave birth.
At the Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva, 42 babies were born. At Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Tzrifin, 32 new babies – 20 boys and 12 girls – were born.
At the Meir Medical Center, there were 25 births, including a pair of twins. One mother gave birth in an ambulance at the entrance to the hospital.
In the delivery rooms of Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, 20 babies were born. At Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Chadera, 13 babies were born. At Assuta Medical Center in Ashdod, 13 babies were born.
At the Galilee Medical Center, seven babies were born during Yom Kippur: 11 boys and 6 girls.
Babies were also born at Hadassah Ein Kerem and Hadassah Mount Scopus.
How many babies were born in Jewish neighborhoods in the USA?
Bashi K
Editor’s Note: I don’t know. You can call up hospitals in the US to find out. If you do, please let us know so our curiosity will be sated.
